The Rock was at the Staples Center Monday night to film “Fighting With My Family” a movie that he has a hand in making about former Divas Champion Paige and her life growing up in a family of wrestlers.
The former WWE Champion was rumored to be making an appearance on Raw, but this didn’t happen and instead he appeared afterward.
There was a match filmed for the new movie that saw actors playing Paige and AJ Lee wrestle in front of the fans before The Rock then came out to a crowd chanting for CM Punk and The Rock told the WWE Universe that he was going to call The Second City Saint and tell him that they were chanting his name.
As you can see below, The Rock made good on his promise.
Rock said: “One second, let me call [CM] Punk. Are we ready? It better not go straight to voicemail. I don’t care if it’s 11:30 in Chicago.”
The call went to voicemail and The Rock then left this message:
“Hey Punk, it’s Rock. This is not a joke. I am literally calling from the middle of the Staples Center with about 15,000 strong [fans]. I hope you hear this, they are chanting your name.”
Punk later responded to the voicemail on Twitter and said that he didn’t answer because he was out walking his dog, Larry because it’s his birthday. He did rweet and thank the Staples Center though saying:
This is the first time Punk has been mentioned in a WWE ring since Stephanie McMahon burned him a few months ago, it probably has nothing to do with WWE moving forward, but it was a nice gesture by The Rock to get the WWE Universe talking.
