Vince McMahon resurrected the XFL earlier this year, but unfortunately the league fell victim to the coronavirus pandemic, and the XFL was forced to file for bankruptcy. That’s when The Rock stepped in with his partners and purchased the league for $15 million.

Today The Rock officially announced that the XFL will return for another season in the spring of 2022 when he posted the following:

“XFL returns SPRING 2022 🏈 As owners, we’re proud to champion our XFL players, coaches, cities and fans into an electrifying 2022 season! It’s an uphill battle – but we’re hungry, humble and no one will outwork us. A league of culture, passion & purpose.

#XFL✊🏾
#Spring2022”

The XFL certainly has an interesting history, but it’s worth noting that the reception to the revamped league that launched earlier this year was mostly positive. So, it will be interesting to see how things go once the league returns in 2022.

Stay tuned for updates.
