Sting is one of the most recognizable wrestlers in history, and although he spent the majority of his career working in WCW, he did make the jump to WWE a few years ago.
The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion only wrestled a few matches in WWE before he retired, and then he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016.
However, it seems that Sting’s deal with WWE is done, as he was recently pulled from an upcoming Mattel action figure series.
Sting no longer has a merchandise contract with WWE, and talk of him possibly working with AEW picked up recently when he mentioned the wrestling promotion on Twitter.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that he’s asked around and gotten no response about the situation with Sting. He noted that if there was nothing going on he would likely be told that there is nothing going on.
Sting hasn’t wrestled a match since he faced off against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions in 2015, and he officially retired from in-ring competition when he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
AEW has been incorporating legends on Dynamite such as Jake Roberts, Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson, so if Sting does work with the company it will be interesting to see how he’s used.
