Last year MVP, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin debuted with AEW and they have since become known as The Hurt Syndicate. Back in January, The Hurt Syndicate won the AEW Tag Team Titles and they’ve been dominating the division ever since.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that it was known some time ago that AEW wanted to do a programing with FTR and Cope & Christian that would start on 9/20. However, The Hurt Syndicate weren’t up for the idea of losing to FTR.

Two ideas that were floated in recent weeks were to do a three way match to get around that and get the belts to FTR, or to do an injury angle with Shelton Benjamin and FTR would get the belts that way. The Hurt Syndicate will defend the AEW Tag Team Titles against Brody King & Bandido and FTR in a three way tag team elimination match at Forbidden Door.

It was reported earlier this month that MVP didn’t want FTR to lose to Jetspeed, and that he preferred The Hurt Syndicate to drop the belts to younger teams such as Gates of Agony, The Outrunners and Private Party.
