Goldberg’s WWE contract expired months ago which means that the former Universal Champion is currently a free agent. Even though he’s not currently under contract Goldberg has made it clear he’s not done wrestling as he has openly stated that he hopes to compete in a retirement match before hanging up the boots for good.
So far no official details have been announced regarding a retirement match for Goldberg, but WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long recently pitched a very surprising name for a potential opponent. Long appeared on Sportskeeda’s The Wrestling Time Machine, and he suggested that Bret Hart should be the man who faces Goldberg in his final match.
“The person that I’d like to put him with is the person that really helped him along the way, but I don’t know whether Bret wants to get back in the ring. For him and Bret Hart to have that final thing, I think that would be it because Bret is the guy. He could hang with Bret. Bret would make him look like a million dollars.”
Long then indicated that he thinks the personal issues between Goldberg and Bret Hart would make a potential match better when he added, “That’s what makes it even better right there. You’ve got a real story. This really happened between these two, so there’s something to settle here, so let’s see what’s gonna happen.”
Bret Hart has repeatedly blamed Goldberg for ending his career by stating a botched kick from Goldberg ultimately led to him being forced into retirement. During an episode of Talk Is Jericho last year Goldberg said that there was no malicious intent involved with the kick, and that he’s sorry, but also done apologizing because Bret Hart will not accept his apology.
Who do you think Goldberg’s final opponent should be? Sound off in the comments below.
