WWE SummerSlam is only a few weeks away and the card is loaded with big matches from Randy Orton vs. Brock Lesnar to AJ Styles vs. John Cena.
One of the biggest matches on this year’s card is the first ever WWE Universal Championship match. Finn Balor is set to face off against the number 1 draft pick Seth Rollins to determine who will be the first champion.
There’s a lot of hype behind this match as both Finn Balor and Seth Rollins have been on fire over the past few months.
Balor recently made his debut and Seth Rollins has been a top star on Raw for years now and their match at SummerSlam will likely get a lot of people talking.
With Finn Balor so new to the main roster, and Seth Rollins clearly established as a top name WWE has the chance to do something special at SummerSlam, they have the chance to pull off a double-turn.
It’s the New Era and anything can happen in the WWE and a double-turn might be just what the first ever Universal Championship match needs. Let’s take a look at a few of the reasons why a double-turn might be the right move at SummerSlam.
The First Ever Universal Championship Match Needs To Be Memorable
The first ever Universal Championship match is set to take place at SummerSlam and already the Universal Championship has a lot of things working against it.
For one, it’s called the Universal Championship and a lot of people seem to hate that name. Two, no one’s seen it yet and if this title doesn’t look incredible fans are going to shun it.
If the Universal Championship truly is going to be the top title on Raw it needs to be taken seriously. Balor and Rollins make great title contenders, but the emotional stakes need to be raised for their feud to make sure the title gets the debut it so desperately needs.
We all remember when Chris Jericho won the first ever Undisputed Championship, because he didn’t just win the title, he did it by beating Stone Cold and The Rock in one night and he gave us a moment we’ll never forget.
The first ever Universal Championship needs to be more than just a match that features Finn Balor and Seth Rollins fighting for a title, it needs to be a moment we will talk about for years to come and a double-turn would keep us talking.
Raw Doesn’t Have A Top Babyface
Everybody’s saying that Raw got the stacked roster following the WWE Draft and although that may be true, it’s awfully lopsided.
Raw has some huge names there’s no denying that, but none of them can really be defined as a babyface. Brock Lesnar gets cheered but he’s hardly a good guy, Seth Rollins is the top heel in the company and Roman Reigns just can’t seem to get over enough with the fans to be the top star that WWE wants him to be.
WWE needs a top face and there’s really nobody in a better position to step up to the plate right now than Seth Rollins himself. There are a few stars on the roster that could take his place as the top heel, but at this point he seems to be the only one ready to take the reigns as the top face.
It’s Time For Finn Balor To Reunite With The Club
It’s hard to deny that The Club haven’t been as dominant as most people expected them to be in WWE, but there’s still plenty of time for the group to live up to its true potential.
Now that AJ Styles has been drafted to SmackDown and Gallows and Anderson are on Raw The Club is leaderless. For months now Finn Balor has been teasing a reunion with Gallows and Anderson in WWE but it has yet to happen.
The Universal Championship match at SummerSlam gives WWE the opportunity to pull off a modern day NWO moment with Finn Balor and The Club. Gallows and Anderson have clearly established themselves as heels, and Finn Balor would be able to make a bigger impact in a shorter amount of time on the main roster if he turned heel and aligned himself with The Club.
The Fans Want Seth Rollins To Turn Face
Seth Rollins is a great heel there’s no denying that. He’s arguably the greatest heel in all of professional wrestling right now, but the fans want him to turn face and they’ve wanted to see it happen for quite some time.
Even before Seth was injured last year fans were beginning to cheer and chant for him due to his incredible athletic ability and the confidence he displays when he performs inside the ring. When Seth made his return to television at the Slammy Awards he had to work extra hard to get the fans to boo him because they wanted to cheer for him and show respect, but he did it. He made them boo because that’s what he does.
The same thing happened when he returned from injury a few months ago. The fans tried to cheer him but he stayed the course and forced them to boo.
The timing for a Seth Rollins face turn has never been better. Seth has massive amounts of fan support despite the fact that he’s the top heel in WWE right now. He has an organic connection with the fans that can’t be created by the WWE creative team.
Seth Rollins is a star without a doubt, but just think about how big of a star he could become if he turned face and if he did it soon.
