There’s been a lot of talk about retirements recently as John Cena is currently on his farewell tour, and AJ Styles has a contract with WWE that’s set to expire next year. Styles hasn’t been shy about letting the world know that he’s looking to retire sooner than later, and now it seems that he’s getting closer to hanging up his boots for good.

Recently AJ Styles spoke to Tokyo Sports about WWE’s return to Japan in October, and The Phenomenal One indicated that he will be retiring from in-ring competition at some point in 2026.

“I’m really excited. I think this will probably be my last match in Japan, so I’m really looking forward to it. I plan to retire soon, and I might not come back to Japan before that.”

“I’ll probably be at WrestleMania, but it’s not confirmed yet. The details are still undecided, but I will definitely retire within the next year. I don’t want to show my fans a side of me that isn’t AJ Styles. That’s the main reason. I’ve decided to retire before my body can no longer move.”

While talking about his post-retirement plans AJ said, “I haven’t decided yet, but I think I’ll probably work for WWE. It might be good to help develop young talent into main roster-caliber wrestlers. But I just don’t know yet.”

AJ Styles will be in action at Crown Jewel: Perth next month as it was recently confirmed that he’ll be facing John Cena on Saturday, October 11th.

Stay tuned for updates.
