This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite was a big one as it featured Sting & Darby Allin challenging Big Bill & Ricky Starks for the AEW Tag Team Titles in the main event. When it was all said and done Sting won gold for the first time in his AEW career on Wednesday night as Sting & Darby defeated Big Bill & Ricky Starks to become the new AEW Tag Team Champions.
Fightful Select reports that for a long time Sting was adamantly against the idea of winning the AEW Tag Team Titles to the point where he was even against the idea of competing for them. However, some in AEW pointed out that within the context of the show Sting & Darby Allin should have had a title shot long ago because they’re undefeated.
The decision for Sting & Darby Allin to win the AEW Tag Team Titles was made well in advance and Sting went along with it. It’s being said that Sting was all smiles backstage after the match.
Sting’s final match will take place at the AEW Revolution pay-per-view on March 3 when Sting & Darby Allin face off against The Young Bucks. According to the report Sting was a major part of the decision for him to face The Young Bucks in his retirement match. Stay tuned for updates.
