Last night during his WWE Hall of Fame speech Sting closed the show by officially announcing his retirement. WWE caught up with him backstage and he says that he battled with the decision right up until the moment he made the announcement. In the weeks leading up the last night’s Hall of Fame ceremony Sting was brushing off rumors about his retirement and saying that he still wants a dream match against The Undertaker. But unfortunately it’s not going to happen.
“It’s something that I battled all the way up until the last minute as to whether or not I was going to retire. It just makes sense right now. I don’t want to. Every wrestler wants one more match and although I believe wholeheartedly I could do it, I just think that it’s time for me to put my boots in the middle of the ring.”
Sting made his first appearance for WWE when he made his debut at Survivor Series in 2014 as he helped Dolph Ziggler’s team beat Team Authority. He then went on to feud with Triple H and their rivalry culminated in a match at WrestleMania 31. Triple H defeated Sting in his first and only WrestleMania match.
Sting later returned to WWE in the fall of 2015 and he challenged Seth Rollins at Night of Champions for the WWE Championship match. His match against is now officially his last match ever.
Sting’s in ring career may be over, but he’s said that he’s open to working a non-physical role with WWE.
