Back in the day when WWE was trying to reboot ECW they decided it would be a good idea to give the brand its own pay-per-view. The show was called December To Dismember, and it was headlined by an Extreme Elimination Chamber match with the ECW World Title on the line.
Originally Sabu was set to compete in the match, but he was written out of the bout and replaced by the one and only Bob Holly. During a recent talk with Wrestling Shoot Interviews, Sabu explained that he was pulled from the title match after he ripped up a script in front of Stephanie McMahon.
“I walked away and hid from her, thinking she’s gonna forget about the promo and think, ‘He’s no good at promos but he’s good in the ring.’ She took me off the show. They had me do an angle where they broke my arm and then flew me home the next morning. I was instructed by security to fly home that morning. I couldn’t stay if I wanted to.”
Sabu did continue to work with WWE following December To Dismember, but he was released in May of 2007, and he noted that things changed for him after Paul Heyman parted ways with the company.
“When Paul Heyman got fired, that’s when everything went downhill, for me anyways. Even though me and Paul had heat, we still respected each other professionally and knew that I was one of the better things for ECW. When he got kicked out, it made a big difference.”
