Monday night WWE made a historic announcement when they confirmed that this year’s WrestleMania will feature an all female battle royal. The company decided to attach a famous name to the battle royal when they dubbed it the Fabulous Moolah Memorial Battle Royal.
It didn’t take long for this idea to backfire, as fans took to social media to voice their displeasure regarding the name. Moolah has a dark past in the world of professional wrestling, and in the end WWE listened to the feedback and removed her name from the match.
The match will now simply be known as the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal, and after the name change was announced Stephanie McMahon took to Twitter to thank the fans for using their voices.
Stephanie posted the following:
Thank you @WWEUniverse for using your voice. What remains most important is that the “@WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal” will be a historic match and is part of @WWE’s unwavering commitment to our Women’s Division. #WomensEvolution #ChangeTheName
