You never know when you’re going to see a former WWE Superstar show up in AEW, and back in March fans saw Swerve Strickland make his debut with All Elite Wrestling. Prior to his run with AEW, Strickland was trying to climb the ladder in NXT where he apparently impressed Stephanie McMahon.
During a recent appearance on Talk Is Jericho, the former NXT North American Champion discussed the gauntlet match he competed in at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, and Swerve noted that he received high praise from Stephanie MccMahon
“Next match, me and Jonah (Bronson Reed) went two segments, 12 minutes, beat the crap out of each other and Shawn (Michaels) was like, ‘That’s what I like, that’s what I want to see. Now you’re in there.’ Then we did the TakeOver: Stand and Deliver with the Gauntlet match, I started first, went 25 minutes, lasted till the end with me and Jonah, put Jonah over. Stephanie McMahon comes to the back and says, ‘You’re my favorite heel on the show.’ Like, literally she said I’m her favorite. ‘Well, Trips (Triple H), you hear that?'”
Swerve Strickland joined WWE in 2019 and was called up to the WWE main roster with Hit Row during the 2021 WWE Draft. Unfortunately all four members of Hit Row were released shortly after in November of 2021.
