Now that Survivor Series has come and gone, there’s only one WWE pay-per-view left before the year comes to a close, and it will be Clash of Champions. The event is a SmackDown Live exclusive pay-per-view, and it’s set to air live on the WWE Network on Sunday, December 17.
AJ Styles defeated Jinder Mahal on SmackDown Live and won the WWE Championship a few weeks ago, and Jinder has yet to invoke his rematch clause.
PWInsider is now reporting that Jinder Mahal will challenge AJ Styles for the WWE Championship in the main event of Night of Champions next month.
The WWE Championship wasn’t defended at Survivor Series this year, as it was a Raw vs. SmackDown Live pay-per-view, so Styles ended up facing Universal Champion Brock Lesnar in non-title match, and ultimately AJ fell to the F5.
It will be interesting to see who walks out of Clash of Champions with belt, because with the Royal Rumble set to take place in January, WrestleMania season is right around the corner.
At WrestleMania 33 AJ Styles faced Shane McMahon, and he recently teased a match with Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania 34. Styles vs. Nakamura was briefly teased during the Money In The Bank ladder match a few months ago, but it seems to be a match that WWE officials are waiting to pull the trigger on.
