This week’s episode of NXT featured a big title change as Thea Hail defeated Blake Monroe to become the new NXT Women’s North American Champion. However, it was reported that the title change was unplanned and caused WWE to make multiple adjustments to creative plans. On Wednesday night matches and content were filmed for the next two episodes of NXT and the title change was addressed.

Bodyslam is reporting that Thea Hail cut a promo during the tapings, but she was interrupted by Blake Monroe. The segment, which will air on the December 23rd episode, reportedly set up a NXT Women’s North American Championship match with Hail defending against Monroe for New Year’s Evil.

The unplanned title change reportedly occurred because Blake Monroe got the wind knocked out of her when Thea Hail landed on her back first, which resulted in Monroe struggling to get the shoulder up. The belief is that policy changes will be made for wrestlers who are booked for NXT tapings moving forward.

NXT New Year’s Evil will air live on the CW on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 and the current card can be seen below.
