Spoiler: Former ROH Star Debuts At NXT Tapings, Update On NXT Women’s Title Match

There have been quite a few big names to wind up in NXT recently. That’s bound to happen every now and then but there seems to be a new wave in NXT right now.

Adam Cole’s union with Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish to form the Undisputed Era is going to be a great faction. But at the NXT tapings on Thursday night a couple new faces joined the NXT Universe looking to capture a brass ring.

Lio Rush has been making a big name for himself on the indie circuit and ROH. Now he’s looking to show the world what he can do in NXT. There were reports he had signed a while ago but he didn’t officially debut until these tapings.

Lio came out to face Aleister Black but was jumped by the Velveteen Dream. Rush and Dream would later face off in a match which Lio Rush lost. It might not be the best kind of debut, but there’s always room to grow in WWE’s developmental territory.

Since winning the Mae Young Classic, everybody’s been wondering what’s next for Kairi Sane. The Pirate Princess came out in all her unique glory at the taping and defeated Aliya in a pretty nice match.

During the show, there were two triple threat women’s matches to determine who would be in the match against Kairi Sane for the vacant NXT Women’s Title.

Ember Moon and Peyton Royce would win their matches to claim spots in the fatal four-way match at NXT TakeOver: Houston. It looks like the next NXT Women’s Championship match could go a number of different directions.

Ember Moon might seem like she’s next in line but never count out Peyton Royce. After Asuka’s dominating reign, someone like Royce might be the perfect fit to be the next NXT Women’s Champion.

Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live it logically wouldn’t make sense if Kairi Sane is planned to pick up the title in Houston. After all, if that was the plan they would have made the vacant championship the prize for winning the Mae Young Classic.
