Austin Aries is a pretty big deal in Impact Wrestling. He is a belt collector and having a pretty good time on top of the former Dixie Carter Land. But he dropped his Impact World Title to Penta O M at Redemption and really surprised a lot of people. Then when he picked his title back up two days later at a television taping people weren’t as surprised.
But as it turns out, due to a scheduling conflict and some tricks in editing Pena O M might not be losing his newly gained title so quickly when it comes to the television product.
“I believe that [Tuesday] was Aries’ last day of these tapings,” Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio. “He had other bookings so he’s only doing the first two days of tapings. So they taped the whole Aries/Pentagon stuff [Tuesday] because it was the only day but it’s going to air much later. So it’s not like it’s going to be, because even though Pentagon only held the title for like two days, it’ll be like months or something. I don’t know exactly what show it’s going to air on.”
“I don’t know how many weeks, for all I know it could be until the end of the taping. Now the show — it won’t be quite the end because the pay-per-view, I mean they have to get Aries as champion because when they start building the July 22nd pay-per-view — granted the July 22nd pay-per-view is still several months away. But the July 22nd pay-per-view will be Aries defending against the winner of a match that will be taped maybe I’m not sure what day we’re running out of days.
It was announced at Wednesday night’s tapings that Eli Drake will take on Moose in the future to determine who gets a shot at Austin Aries and his Impact World Championship. Moose defeated Kongo Kong and Eli Drake beat Scott Steiner to prove their points as well. So we have Eli Drake vs Scott Steiner to look forward to.
Only time will tell who Austin Aries will be defending his title against at Slammiversary XVI. But don’t expect to see Penta drop his new title immediately. Then again, anything can happen in pro wrestling especially in Impact because they’ve been known to book things on a dime.
