Sheamus has been out of action for a few weeks now due to an injury but he should be making his return soon. The rumors going around the Internet suggest that WWE is interested in turning Sheamus heel upon his return and we’re all for it. We think a Sheamus heel turn is exactly what he needs, here’s why.
He’s Stale As A Face
When WWE turned Sheamus face a few years ago it seemed to make sense. The irony of his face turn is that the WWE seemingly turned him because he was really starting to get over as a heel. Sheamus was aggressive, ruthless and he had a smash mouth style that was a lot of fun to watch. He was supposed to be a bad guy, but he was so damn good at it that he started to get cheered instead of booed.
Then the face turn came. Upon turning face WWE changed mostly everything that the fans loved about Sheamus’ persona. Instead of being the angry ruthless type, he was all smiles, telling extremely corny jokes all the time. To make a long story short, he became the Irish John Cena.
Despite the fact that they gave him a mega push and attempted to make him the face of SmackDown, he wasn’t really connecting with the fans. His World Heavyweight Championship reign in 2012 should have been one of the highlights of his career but unfortunately the fans just weren’t buying it.
Now when Sheamus comes out he doesn’t get the reaction he should despite the fact that he constantly puts on one of the better if not the best match of the show. Forcing Sheamus into this super good guy personality has really hurt his relationship with the audience and it’s gone as far as it can go. Time to move on.
He’s A Natural Heel
When Sheamus first debuted on WWE’s ECW brand he quickly made a name for himself. It didn’t take long for him to get promoted to Raw and WWE wasted no time in making him WWE Champion. Sheamus debuted in ECW in June of 2009 and by mid December he was WWE Champion. It might have been a little too quick to give him the richest prize in the industry but the guy was holding his own. He would then go on to have major feuds with John Cena and Randy Orton before a loss to Triple H at WrestleMania 26 killed a lot of his momentum.
WWE is already stacked with suitable face characters such as Cena, Bryan, Ziggler and others but it lacks credible heel characters at the moment. Sheamus has proved in the past that he can hold his own against the top names in the business and he would make much more of an impact as a heel than he would as a face. Sheamus is a good talker on the mic but the truth is, we don’t want to see him talk, we just want to see him destroy people.
Sheamus looks like someone you should be afraid of and it’s time that WWE made people fear him again. Sheamus is a credible heel because you know he’s a wrecking ball and doesn’t have to resort to cheap tactics to get the win.
He’s Too Talented Not To Be Featured At The Top Of The Card
With the way Sheamus was presented in his first few months on television you would think that he would have secured himself a spot at the top of the card but unfortunately that’s not the case. The fans love and appreciate Sheamus, they just can’t connect with his personality at the moment. He seems to drift throughout various spots on the card with a lack of direction which isn’t really his fault.
This guy has paid his dues, he works great matches, he’s passionate about the business and he’s clearly a team player. Sheamus still hasn’t reached his peak in WWE yet and he’s not going to get there trying to portray a persona that’s already being used by another superstar. Instead of seeing Sheamus act like John Cena, we want to see him try to destroy John Cena because he’s a believable threat to him.
Sheamus has all the tools to be one of the top guys in WWE the company just needs to give him direction and they should start by turning him heel, because that’s what’s best for business.
