Sheamus has had a lot of ups and downs throughout the course of his career, but he recently returned to WWE programming after a long absence.
The road back wasn’t easy, as Sheamus suffered a concussion shortly after WrestleMania 35 and he spent the better part of a year sitting on the sidelines.
The former WWE Champion recently spoke to The Mirror and admitted that he thought about hanging up the boots for good while he was away. However, he noted that WWE Hall of Famer Edge inspired him to keep going.
“I was sitting on the couch and had no energy for a couple of weeks. I was just zonked, mate. I just didn’t know. I’d had a few concussions before but, at that time, I just didn’t know; didn’t know what the next step was or whether I’d be able to wrestle again. With the time off, I was so productive. I went to physical therapy and worked on the imbalances in my body and put my head into the YouTube channel while training with Aleister Black and Edge.
That’s when I realised – when I was with Edge and he was in the best shape of his life. I was looking at all the titles on the wall that I’d won, and there was Edge who was still so passionate about the business but, at the time, couldn’t come back at the time. I realised I wasn’t finished and still had so much more to achieve – and that’s gonna start with the Intercontinental title. That’s all that’s on my mind, mate. Sami Zayn has it now and he has a big target on his back!”
Even though Sheamus has won quite a few titles in his WWE career, he’s made it clear that winning the Intercontinental Championship is his big goal at the moment.
The Celtic Warrior also noted that he’s hoping to work with AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Rusev, Drew McIntyre, Finn Balor and John Morrison at some point.
