For weeks now it’s been rumored that WWE wants Shawn Michaels to return to the ring for a match against AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble in 2017. Fans have been talking about a potential AJ Styles vs. Shawn Michaels dream match ever since the rumors surfaced, but unfortunately HBK has debunked the rumors.
Shawn Michaels recently spoke with THE FAN’s Troy Hughes and Kevin Hageland about his new movie “The Resurrection of Gavin Stone” and he revealed that no one from WWE has contacted him about returning at the Royal Rumble.
“No one has even contacted me about that show. I don’t know if anyone cares that I’m from there.” said The Heartbreak Kid. “I think the WWE has happily moved on from me.”
Although Shawn Michaels made it clear that there are no plans in place for him to wrestle AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble, he had nothing but good things to say about AJ Styles.
“I met AJ Styles once, he’s a phenomenal young man. Very nice, very respectful young man, and unbelievably talented. I’m flattered that my name pops up almost every week on people’s wish list for guys to wrestle. That’s a compliment to me, and I’m thankful for that, but everybody knows I’m very comfortable with my life and being retired.”

Shawn Michaels also commented on rumors regarding his status as a trainer at the WWE Performance Center. Michaels noted that he is interested in working with the talent, but the details haven’t been worked out yet.
“I’ve been there, I’ve been around. It is stuff we’re talking about. I do a number of other things, and the most difficult thing for me is going to be trying to have some form of steady routine and schedule. If that’s something we can work out, it’s clearly something I’m interested in. The times I’ve been there, I thoroughly enjoy it. I love what they’re doing down there. Whether it be a combination of the Performance Center or NXT, we haven’t worked a lot of that out.”
