Sports Illustrated has an interview up with WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels where he discussed who he could see himself being paired up against if he were to come back for one more match. Although a potential Shawn Michaels vs. AJ Styles match has been the talk of the internet wrestling community, The Heartbreak Kid said he could see himself with facing off against more superstars than just the Phenomenal One.
Shawn brought up that he would also love to work with Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins, but really put Samoa Joe over as a guy he could see himself working with.
“The thing I do best is get beat up. Samoa Joe’s stuff looks so good and crisp, and he’s a pretty tough, rugged-looking dude, so that would work to my strengths. It’s a different kind of match than an AJ-Shawn match. An AJ-Shawn match would be something that you’d expect to be like what you saw with Shawn Michaels and Kurt Angle. That’s a lot of fun to do, but it is also a lot of work. I guess I speak more of Samoa Joe because it is one of those things that can be good, like a Shawn and ’Taker, but it’s a heck of a lot easier to do physically. Of course, when you get up there in age, those are the things you think about. It’s more about the story you’ve got to tell and it’s a little less physical. That’s when I think, ‘That would be a piece of cake and be a lot of fun.’ But there are a number of talented guys out there, and the world of the WWE is in good hands with the talent at the top.”
Shawn said the WWE is in very good hands right now with the current talent on the roster, but we wonder how it would be any less physical taking a muscle buster than doing a few kip-ups. Then again, HBK was probably referring to the amount of movement he would have to do rather than the bumps he’d need to take during a match against someone like Joe. Because Shawn Michaels is a master salesman and has always made that look so easy and amazing all at the same time.
When he was asked which WrestleMania 33 match excited him, he said that he was anticipating the Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho match the most. He said he can’t wait to see what unfolds for AJ Styles, Triple H, and Seth Rollins in their respective matches and really put The Undertaker over for being able to still get out there and go at WrestleMania at this stage in his career.
