Shawn Michaels On If He’ll Be At WrestleMania 33, Wrestling Kurt Angle

Shawn Michaels is considered by many to be one of the greatest wrestlers to ever step in the ring, but the night after WrestleMania 26 he retired and he’s said several times that he has no interest in returning.

Although the WWE Hall of Famer isn’t looking to lace up his boots in the near future, he does still make appearances on WWE programming from time to time. For instance, Michaels made a surprise appearance on Raw this week when he dropped by to have a little chat with Roman Reigns.

WrestleMania 33 will be here in only a few short weeks, but despite the fact that Shawn Michaels is known as Mr. WrestleMania, he still hasn’t been told whether or not he’s supposed to be making an appearance at the event.

“Like everything with me, I like to think they know they could tell me at the last possible moment and I can hopefully not screw it up,” Michaels told Sports Illustrated. “I want to say somebody mentioned something to me about being on the WrestleMania pre-show, but that is pure speculation on my part. As of right now, I don’t know. Right now, we’ve got the big Kliq event, and the Hall of Fame. I’m very excited to see the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express get inducted and Rick Rude, among other folks.”

Shawn Michaels has been part of some incredible WrestleMania matches over the years and many fans believe The Undertaker vs. HBK at WrestleMania 25 is the best match to ever take place at the event. But Shawn’s match with Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 21 is another match that fans remember fondly, and HBK admitted that Kurt took him to the next level.

“There has never been anybody that I got in the ring with that I felt I needed to specifically train for. There was never even a possibility that someone could have more gas in the tank than me, but Kurt was different. I confessed to myself that Kurt was that guy, and I knew that match had to live up to extremely high standards, so I made sure I prepared extra.”

With Kurt returning and Shawn Michaels continuously saying that he will remain retired, it’s a shame that we’ll never be able to see these two face off in the ring again. But we’ll always have WrestleMania 21, won’t we?
