CM Punk’s backstage brawl with The Elite has become infamous over the last few months and there’s still a lot of speculation regarding Punk’s future with AEW.
Recently Dax Harwood of FTR made a plea for CM Punk and The Elite to put their differences aside and work together. Now fans are wondering if it could actually happen and if there’s a chance for Punk to move forward with AEW. However, it seems that there are some names who don’t want him to be part of the AEW roster.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that several top names, one of which is Chris Jericho, told the rest of the AEW locker room that they will make sure CM Punk isn’t brought back to the company.
It was noted that whether or not Punk could be brought back depends on where business is in five to six months. If business is bad then there’s a greater chance that Tony Khan will want CM Punk back. How Tony Khan handles the CM Punk situation will likely be one of the big stories of 2023 as there’s no point in making a decision right now because CM Punk is currently out of action due to injury.
Following the brawl at All Out it was reported that AEW was in talks to buy out CM Punk’s contract, but neither Punk nor Tony Khan have confirmed that’s the case. Stay tuned for updates.
