Samoa Joe On Rising To WWE’s Main Event Scene

The Samoan Submission Machine might have one of the biggest matches in his career as he challenges for the Universal Title in the main event of SummerSlam but he’s still got a good head on those broad shoulders. Samoa Joe’s star seemed to only shine brighter when WWE noticed how insanely well he was received by fans.

Samoa Joe recently spoke to USA Today where he went into some detail about how he felt when he finally got the call to come up to WWE’s main roster.

“I didn’t really come in with a lot of expectations,” Joe said. “This is a very chaotic industry and you never know what will happen from one moment to the next.”

But he was very level-headed the whole time and knew it was going to be a chance for him to show what he could do. Long story short, he’s gained a lot of momentum in the last few months. Samoa Joe wasn’t even featured at WrestleMania and now he’s going to be wrestling in the main event at the Biggest Party of the Summer.

“Coming into the main roster scene, I just saw it as an opportunity and I tried to take advantage of it as much as possible. We’re a half-year later, and here we are in the main event of SummerSlam.”

Samoa Joe is no stranger to main eventing at the Barclays Center as he was in the final match of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II one year ago. He lost that encounter against Shinsuke Nakamura and dropped his NXT Title in the process, but he plans on gaining some gold this time around. Ironically, Nakamura is looking to pick up a title as well on the blue brand.

“It’s taking the main event and moving it over one night. It’s an unusual spot as far as the match goes [being back in Brooklyn main eventing for the second year in a row], but I’ve been in main events in the Barclays Center before.”

Joe went on to really put over some of his fellow wrestlers on WWE’s current main roster as well. He said any number of top guys on the roster could spell a dream match for him.

“You look up and down the roster and you see guys I still have yet to be across from in WWE,” Joe said. “You see guys like John Cena, Randy Orton, AJ Styles again, Rusev, The Miz and think of those matchups in your future, you have to pinch yourself. There are lot of potential dream matches.”
