There’s been a lot of talk about retirement in the wrestling world lately as Goldberg retired in July, and John Cena is set to retire on December 13th. AJ Styles also confirmed that he will be retiring in 2026 and now it seems that one of his greatest rivals is getting ready to hang up the boots as well.
During a recent interview with SHAK Wrestling, Samoa Joe was asked if he’ll be retiring when his current AEW contract expires and he indicated that will likely be the case.
“It might be a surprise. It might just be one day I’m gone and leave it at that. I’m not as ceremonial as everybody else. I like disappearing into the sunset.
I’ve always been somebody that’s been firmly planted with my head toward the future and never tried to dwell too much in the past. And it’s kind of been my theory with the industry too. I would hope we always look towards the future and not, obviously, appreciate the past, but not miss it too much.”
When Joe was asked if there’s a certain date he might like to share regarding when he will retire he said, “No. Not at all. It might be a surprise. It might just be one day I’m gone and leave it at that. I’m not as ceremonial as everybody else. I like disappearing into the sunset.”
