Earlier this year Samoa Joe dethroned the longest reigning NXT Champion Finn Balor at a NXT live event in Lowell, MA. Joe held onto the title for a few months until he clashed with Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II. Nakamura defeated Joe to become the new NXT Champion, and ever since then Samoa Joe has been a thorn in Nakamura’s side.
Shinsuke Nakamura defended his NXT Championship against Samoa Joe at NXT TakeOver: Toronto on Saturday night, and Samoa Joe made history by becoming the first ever two time NXT Champion.
Nakamura and Joe went to war with each other, but on Saturday night, Samoa Joe turned out to be the better man. Near the end of the match, Samoa Joe was leaning on the ropes, and Nakamura hit him with a Kinsasha to the back of the head and sent him to the outside. Nakamura then rushed Joe, and Joe hit him with a low blow kick.
Samoa Joe followed up by slamming Shinsuke Nakamura on the steel steps then he rolled him in the ring, and hit him with the Muscle Buster to win the title.
