During Sami Zayn’s run with NXT he was one of the brand’s top stars and he even captured the NXT Championship for a short while. Fans were thrilled to see Sami Zayn join the WWE main roster when he got called up, but Zayn hasn’t been nearly as successful on Raw as he was in NXT.
The former NXT Champion recently spoke to The Whig about his lack of main roster success, and he has faith that he’s getting close to reaching the next level.
“I see sometimes the fans make a much bigger deal of these losses than I personally do, because you can’t win them all, you just can’t,” he said. “You do your best and that’s it. You lose a few here or there. You’ve just got to be good at forgetting those losses or using them as motivation to drive yourself forward. It doesn’t really stop my momentum. I think I’m in a good place right now, and I feel like I’m just on the cusp of doing something really good or really breaking out to that next level. I feel like I’m just outside the bubble. Testing myself against guys like Braun Strowman or Samoa Joe are really what I think is going to take me to the next level. I don’t look at these losses in any way as a defeat. I use them as motivation if anything or I just move forward.”
As of right now it doesn’t look like WWE officials have any big plans for Sami Zayn at WrestleMania. However, main eventing WrestleMania is still one of his big goals, and Zayn says he would like to face Kevin Owens at the big event someday.
“If I could main event a WrestleMania with Kevin Owens one day, wow. That would be pretty much as a big as it could get considering we’re two guys that started wrestling each other in front of 40 people, 15 years ago,” he said. “From a sentimental standpoint, the journey coming full circle kind of way, I’d have to say Kevin Owens. I think there’d be a crazy level of electricity in the air.”
