Sabu is a hardcore legend, and he’s well known for his over the top style. Sabu had great success in ECW during the 90s, and he later made his way to WWE after ECW was revived, and it became WWE’s third brand.
During his run with the company Sabu was able to wrestle at WrestleMania when he teamed up with the ECW Originals to face the New Breed at WrestleMania 23, but he didn’t last very long, as he was only with WWE for a little over a year. Although Sabu’s run with WWE was short, he had mostly good things to say about his time with the company during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, although he did admit that he wishes he had joined the company sooner.
“I had a little regret over [not going to WWE sooner], but I’m happy where I’m at now. There’s a few things I wish I would have done differently, but for the most part, I did things my way. I achieved some things that were told to me to be unachievable. I got a lot of flack before I wrestled Cena, but no flack afterward because he was good. A lot of guys mock him, but he’s a good worker.”
Sabu has reached legendary status over the course of his career, and there’s no denying that he had a significant impact on the business. Most fans would agree that Sabu’s contributions to the industry warrant a Hall of Fame induction for the former ECW star, but it doesn’t sound like a Hall of Fame induction is something Sabu is losing sleep over.
“It’s such a fake Hall of Fame. I’d only do it because I need the money. I don’t know if I would mother— everyone or if I would take it graciously, but I don’t consider it a real Hall of Fame. It’s not like the Baseball Hall of Fame or the Football Hall of Fame. They let anybody in it, anybody who could draw money. The real wrestling Hall of Fames are in Iowa and Amsterdam, New York. They look for donations because they’re so broke, but they have s— from the 1800s.”
As far as Sabu’s future goes, he told SI that he’s not done wrestling despite the fact that he recently had hip surgery, and he also admitted that he needs shoulder surgery as well. If you would like to make a donation to help Sabu pay his medical bills you can do so by visiting his GoFundMe page.
