Sabu made a name for himself working in the original ECW, but when Vince McMahon and company decided to reboot ECW in 2006 different things were expected of Sabu.
While speaking to Wrestling Shoot Interviews the former ECW World Champion explained that Vince McMahon wanted him to he a likable babyface. Apparently Sabu didn’t have the same vision for himself and he even cut promos badly on purpose in hopes that Vince McMahon would give up on the idea.
“He starts off nicely and then gets vicious. He politely said, ‘I want you to be a likable babyface.’ I go, ‘Yeah, right.’ ‘No, I want you to talk. I want you to talk now. We’re gonna go in the dressing room and talk.’ I’d hide for a while, thinking he’d forget about it, but he wouldn’t forget about it.”
“I had two sessions with just Vince and a cameraman trying to cut this promo. I was cutting it badly on purpose, thinking he would say, ‘Okay, no promo,’ but he didn’t. He kept making me do it.”
Sabu was eventually released from WWE in May of 2007 and he went on to work in TNA and the independent circuit.
