It’s been a little while since fans have seen Rusev on WWE programming, as the former United States Champion wasn’t being used in recent weeks, and he reportedly asked for time off.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Rusev’s deal is up relatively soon. It’s been speculated that he asked for time off because he’s unhappy with his position in WWE, so it’s possible WWE could freeze his contract.
It’s not confirmed that he won’t be sticking around, but it’s being said that it wouldn’t be surprising if he leaves the company.
It’s likely that AEW and NJPW would both have interest in Rusev.
Right now there’s no word on when Rusev could be returning to WWE TV.
