Last month CM Punk wrestled his first televised match for WWE in 10 years when he entered the 30 man Royal Rumble match. Unfortunately for CM Punk he suffered an injury during the match and now he’s sitting on the sidelines while he recovers from surgery.
During a recent appearance on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, CM Punk’s friend Ace Steel talked about the possibility of Punk doing commentary and he indicated that the idea was something WWE is interested in.
“Definitely, they want him commentary, they want him on commentary. I don’t know that they go that route since they did an injury angle to pull him out since they did the storyline on him; [Drew] stomps on his arm. There’s the physicality that puts him out. I personally don’t want to see him in an onscreen role unless it’s in the meantime he’s doing NXT or something.
Fightful Select is now reporting that there was no discussion of CM Punk doing commentary. CM Punk is not expected to be at the WWE Performance Center for the next few weeks. The word is that Ace Steel’s comments were simply a suggestion that he made.
At this point in time there’s currently no word on when CM Punk will be making his next appearance on WWE programming. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
