A lot of big things have happened over the last few days, and Alberto El Patron got people talking when he no showed the Impact Wrestling vs. Lucha Underground event on Friday night.
It didn’t take long for Impact Wrestling to respond to his actions, as the company released a statement on Saturday confirming that Alberto had been released from his contract.
There’s been a lot of talk that Alberto possibly got himself fired in order return to WWE, but PWInsider is reporting that’s incorrect, and that Alberto has not had any recent discussions with the company regarding a possible return.
Alberto El Patron’s contract with Impact Wrestling was set to expire on April 21st, and he had a one year contract extension on the table, which included a raise, but whether or not the two sides actually signed the extension before he was released is unknown.
At this point it’s unclear if Impact will enforce some sort of non compete clause, but it’s possible that Patron will not be able to appear on TV until after his deal officially expires.
Alberto was originally being advertised to challenge Austin Aries for the Impact Global Championship at the Redemption pay-per-view later this month, but that match has since been changed to a triple threat which will see Aries defend against Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix.
