For some reason, there are people out there who love to spread misinformation. Some of the reasons behind this might have to do with trolling motives or just boredom. But in a day and age where it is getting increasingly harder to tell the difference between real and “fake news” it can be very frustrating that there seem to be some people out there who have no problem spreading mistruths.
We previously reported that NXT TakeOver: WarGames was coming to the Staples Center this year to once again be a part of Survivor Series weekend. While this very well could still end up happening, at this time that is not the case.
The Wrestling Observer’s website reports this story has been debunked. The story which first appeared on the AXS website soon spread around the IWC like a wildfire. The article has since been taken down because it was proven false but that still doesn’t leave much of an explanation as to why someone would tell such a large fabrication and try to pass it off as legitimate.
We apologize if we got your hopes up by reporting the story yesterday, and this is the reason why we’re taking this opportunity to make it right. If NXT does hold another WarGames event it could be pretty epic but unfortunately, it’s not in the cards at this time.
The Staples Center will still host four amazing nights of pro wrestling action including NXT TakeOver, Survivor Series, Raw, and SmackDown but at this present point, there is no truth to the rumor that WarGames is going to be any part of it.
If anything, this rumor should show how much fans would love to see the dual-ringed gimmick cage match come back. And of course, there is still plenty of time until November so things could always change and for all we know, WarGames might be coming to the Staples Center… but we’ll just have to wait and see until something official comes out on the matter.
