Anticipation has been building for weeks heading into the Royal Rumble and the road to WrestleMania officially kicked off when the show aired live from Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
Some huge names were confirmed for the men’s Royal Rumble match such as Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Rey Mysterio and more. Heading into the match there were 8 open spots for surprise entrants which led to a lot of speculation regarding who might show up.
Oba Femi entered the match at number 1 to a big reaction from the crowd and Bron Breakker entered at number 2. Paul Heyman accompanied Bron Breakker and Breakker was attacked by a mystery man in a hoodie as he tried to enter the match. The man threw Breakker in the ring then Oba immediately eliminated Breakker.
The match continued as Solo Sikoa, Rey Mysterio and Rusev entered and Oba eliminated them all. Matt Cardona entered next and Femi quickly eliminated him as well. Damian Priest then entered at 7 followed by Je’Von Evans, Mr. Iguana and Trick Williams at 8, 9 and 10 respectively.
Cody Rhodes entered the match at number 11. El Grande Americano then made his way to the ring as the 12th entrant and he quickly put the metal plate into his mask. Another El Grande Americano entered at number 13.
Powerhouse Hobbs’ name flashed on the screen as number 14 came out then the name on the screen quickly changed to Royce Keys. Austin Theory entered at number 15 followed by Bronson Reed at 16 and Ilja Dragunov at number 17. La Parka made his way out at number 18 and Dragon Lee entered at 19.
The final member of The Vision, Logan Paul, joined the match at number 20. The Vision teamed up on Royce Keys and they ended up eliminating him. The group continued to work together as they eliminated La Parka followed by Dragon Lee.
LA Knight returned at number 21 and eliminated Logan Paul then Bronson Reed. Knight brawled with Logan Paul as Brock Lesnar entered at number 22 with Paul Heyman by his side. The Miz entered at number 23, but slid out of the ring briefly as Brock stared him down.
Rey Fenix entered at number 24, but was quickly eliminated after Lesnar hit him with the F5 and threw him over the top rope. Brock Lesnar eliminated Oba Femi, then Jey Uso entered through the crowd at number 25.
As Jey was making his entrance Cody Rhodes and LA Knight teamed up to eliminate Brock Lesnar. Jey got in the ring then did the run it back thing with his entrance.
Roman Reigns made his entrance at number 26. He stood face to face with Jey Uso then they both agreed to run it back, but Roman smashed Jey as soon as the entrance music started playing again. The Tribal Chief speared Miz then threw him over the top rope.
Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns came face to face as Jacob Fatu entered at number 27. Cody went to do a dive through the middle rope on Jacob, but Jacob hit Cody before he could connect and they battled outside the ring for a moment.
Jacob Fatu and Roman Reigns stared each other down as Cody attacked Jacob. Roman and Jey hit the 1-D on Cody, then Penta entered at number 28. Shortly after Cody eliminated LA Knight. Randy Orton entered the match at number 29 and Gunther was the last person to enter the match at number 30.
Cody and Randy teamed up on Gunther, but Gunther moved out of the way and Cody accidentally hit Randy with a Cody cutter. Jacob Fatu threw Cody over the top rope and he tried to hold on, but Drew McIntyre interfered and hit him with a kick to eliminate him. Roman then eliminated Jacob Fatu and Jey.
The final four came down to Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, Gunther and Logan Paul. Roman Reigns eliminated Logan Paul then Gunther eliminated Randy Orton to bring it down to two.
Gunther tried to put Roman in the sleeper hold, but Roman fought out. Gunther went for a powerbomb, but Roman threw him over the top onto the apron. The Ring General applied the sleeper again and Roman fought out of it. He went for a Superman Punch, but Gunther locked in the sleeper again.
Roman got out of it and connected with the spear then threw Gunther over the top to win the match.
