Could Roman Reigns Be Set To Make History At Roadblock?

Survivor Series is just two weeks away and it seems that WWE is already focusing on where they are going after the last dual brand pay-per-view event of the year.

The main event for TLC has already been announced and now it has also been revealed that the main event for Roadblock on December 18th will see Kevin Owens defend his Universal Championship against Roman Reigns.

The announcement was made through the PPG Paints Arena, that will host the final event of WWE’s calendar year in just over a months time. The tweet read:

“JUST ANNOUNCED: Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens for the WWE Universal Championship live at Roadblock: End of the Line on 12/18!”

It is still not one hundred percent clear as to whether or not WWE will ask Roman to put his United States Championship on the line as well, but if they don’t then the match could have history riding on it.

No superstar has ever held the Universal Championship and the United States Championship at the same time, although Seth Rollins did hold both the US and the WWE World Heavyweight Championships from SummerSlam to Night of Champions last year and became the first person to ever hold this variation of titles together.

Roman has only recently stepped into a rivalry with Kevin Owens after he and Rusev put their feud to bed in a brutal Hell in a Cell match at the pay-per-view of the same name on Sunday night.

This week’s episode of Monday Night Raw saw WWE tease a reunion between former Shield members Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, but this reunion would be a short lived one if Roman decides to go after a Championship that Rollins has failed to lift on his last four attempts.

Rollins was always going to need back up in his feud with Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho but Roman was an unlikely addtion to the story line, and if Owens and Reigns are facing off in the main event then it is likely that Rollins and Jericho will be on the card somewhere as well.

If the duo are not fighting each other at the event then they will definitley be interfering in the match in one form or another. This feud will not be one that will easily be put to bed, so the WWE creative team will have to ensure that the climax to this is worthy of the feud that they created a few months ago.

If Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns do team up for a while, does this mean that there is a chance that The Shield will reunite in the future? This is the biggest question coming from the WWE Universe right now, but another big one is what Roman has done to entitle him to a Universal Championship match.

That being said, Rollins himself has been handed four Universal Championship shots over the past few months without reason as well. The brand split has left the rosters depleted which means that there are few challengers for Kevin Owens’ title.

Even though Rusev lost his feud to Roman Reigns, he would have been the one that many fans would have expected to step into a main level feud like this. Instead he was fed to Goldberg on Monday Night Raw in an attempt to build up the former WCW superstar ahead of his match with Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series.

It could be argued that Rusev deserves a title shot much more that Roman Reigns, but it seems that WWE are continuing to push Roman despite him not being the fan favourite that they had hoped he would become.

The WWE Universe have not reacted well to the news that Reigns will be stepping back into the main title picture for the first time since Battleground after he failed WWE’s Wellness Policy test for the first time.

WWE hoped that pushing him down to the mid-card would help him build himself back up, but it seems that the WWE Universe are reacting to the news the same way they would have done a few months ago because once again it seems that WWE always find a way to push Roman into the main picture.

If Roman does become only the third recognised Universal Champion at Roadblock, will the WWE Universe change their opinion of him? Orare WWE trying to hard to mold him into the next John Cena?
