WWE has been in a bit of a rut as of late. The storylines have left something to be desired, and the ratings aren’t all that hot, but with summer quickly approaching there’s hope that we’ll be getting some entertaining angles to latch on to sooner rather than later.
One thing that WWE fans have to be excited about is the return of 16 time WWE World Champion John Cena. It’s already been confirmed that Cena will be returning on the July 4th episode of WWE SmackDown Live. It’s also been confirmed that when John Cena returns, he will not be exclusive to SmackDown, as he’s now being advertised as a free agent.
This week on Raw it was revealed that Roman Reigns will be announcing his plans for SummerSlam next Monday night, which caused some to speculate that he may end up challenging John Cena.
Dave Meltzer noted that on Wrestling Observer Radio that a lot of people have been asking him if Roman Reigns will be facing John Cena at SummerSlam, and he was told that Cena will not be Roman’s opponent.
The WWE brand split returned last summer, and since then WWE has mostly prevented stars from working both brands. The reason behind Cena’s free agent status is that they know he’s a draw, so he will no longer be exclusive to the blue brand.
As far as Roman Reigns’ opponent for SummerSlam goes, who he will be facing is still unknown at this point. In regards to Cena’s opponent, it’s unconfirmed, but the rumor right now is that John Cena could be challenging Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship at the big event.
On this week’s episode of Still Real Radio, we’re talking to former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger about what’s next for his wrestling career, possibly going to Impact Wrestling, winning the World Title and more.
