The Rock has had a stellar year in 2016. Nobody can deny that he’s one of the hardest working men in Hollywood and everywhere else for that matter. There’s also no denying he’s one of the most mainstream individuals ever to come out of WWE.
Dwayne Johnson starred in one of the films nominated for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song, Disney’s “Moana.”
During the Oscar Awards ceremony, Jimmy Kimmel introduced Dwayne Johnson as a “former wrestler” and also made a joke about the fact he’s a former WWE superstar and he is now the highest paid actor in Hollywood. He kind of took a shot at WWE, okay, let’s not let that bother us too much.
Let’s try to focus on the positive here.
The Rock took the stage and during his short bit, he showed the poise and natural speaking ability we know him for, only he wasn’t turned up to 11 like he is on WWE TV. Johnson was even able to sing a line from his song in “Moana.” However, “You’re Welcome” was not nominated for best song at the 89th Annual Academy Awards, “How Far I’ll Go” was.
Rocky was up there to simply introduce Auli’i Cravalho who sang the song from “Moana” that was actually nominated for best song. Unfortunately, “City of Stars” from “La La Land” won the best song category.
“Moana” was also nominated for Best Animated Picture but lost to another Disney Film, “Zootopia.”
