Rob Van Dam Reveals Why Sabu Intentionally Botched Spots In The Ring

Sabu recently resurfaced in AEW as he decided to assist Adam Cole in his fight against the one and only Chris Jericho. At this point in his career Sabu has established himself as a legend and the work he did in ECW is still remembered fondly by many fans.

Throughout his career Sabu has constantly put his body on the line by performing dangerous spots in the ring, but sometimes those spots haven’t worked out for him. If you’re familiar with Sabu then you’ve likely seen him slip up at some point, but Rob Van Dam recently claimed on his 1 Of A Kind podcast that Sabu would sometimes botch spots intentionally.

“He would do that and he would tell me he is gonna do it, and then I would see the write up and they would be criticizing him saying that he missed a bunch of spots because it was so different. It wouldn’t even, it wouldn’t fit in. And the only reason to do it would be, ‘Hey, that would happen.’”

“You know, but everyone’s gonna think he f*cked up. So he would do that for no reason. Like boom, set me up chair top rope. He would slip and like, fall to the floor and like, and everyone would be like, ‘what just happened?’”

“And he wanted it that realism and, and wanted to work the people in the, in the moment so much that, you know, sacrificed some of his credibility with certain marks.”
