For years Rob Van Dam was one of the top stars in WWE and he finally cemented his legacy in 2006 when he defeated John Cena to win the WWE Championship. Van Dam cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and he faced off against John Cena in a unique environment when they clashed at ECW One Night Stand.
The match still gets talked about often by fans thanks to the reaction John Cena received, and for it being one of the biggest moments of RVD’s career. During a recent episode of his 1 Of A Kind podcast Van Dam recalled what was going through his mind after winning the belt while revealing that he felt like he was on top of the world.
“What I remember about that is [the referee counting] 1, 2, 3. Oh my God, that just happened. That’s how I felt. I’m on top of the world right now. The coveted, top seat in the industry. [It was like] ‘Woah,’ and I did it my way which meant so much more to me than winning it twenty times doing it their way.”
