On the road to WrestleMania 34 Shinsuke Nakamura secured a title shot when he won the 30 man Royal Rumble match and he ended up challenging AJ Styles for the WWE Championship on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
There was a lot of anticipation for Styles vs. Nakamura heading into WrestleMania thanks to their highly acclaimed match that took place at Wrestle Kingdom 10. Recently Road Dogg explained why the match was booked on his Oh You Didn’t Know? podcast and he said that it was all about giving the IWC what they wanted.
“We felt like we were listening to the international wrestling community. A lot of people think differently about that match than I did. Like, I thought it was a good match. But, I think I’ve seen matches from theirs in Japan where it was just a different crowd and a different reaction to things, and I’ve seen them have better matches in Japan … It was all about giving the IWC, you know, that’s just the truth of it, it was about giving them what they wanted and it was also good business.”
While talking about whether or not John Cena might have been a better fit for the spot Road Dogg showed his support for The Phenomenal One when he said, “I don’t think we went wrong with AJ Styles.”
