It looks like the SmackDown Live brand is going through some changes, as one of the lead writers has left their role with the show.
PWInsider is reporting that Brian “Road Dogg” James informed WWE on Wednesday that he is stepping down from his position as co-lead writer on the SmackDown Live brand.
James had been heading up the brand with Stephen Guerrieri, while Stephen remained at WWE HQ in CT and James went on the road. Stephen Guerrieri has held a lead writer position with WWE since 2014, and he’s worked with creative since 2012.
It’s being reported that James was frustrated with changes Vince McMahon making changes to the script, and that he finally reached a “breaking point” on Tuesday.
At this point it’s not known who will be replacing James, but several WWE sources have noted that nowadays the lead writer position is more of a formality, as everything is either approved, shot down, or tweaked by Vince McMahon.
