Ric Flair Threatening WWE With Legal Action Over “The Man” Trademark, Says Charlotte Is Upset

Becky Lynch has been calling herself “The Man” since last year, and everyone knows that one of Ric Flair’s famous sayings is, “to be the Man, you gotta beat the Man.”

Flair recently spoke to TMZ about Becky using the nickname and he noted that he’s been calling himself “The Man” since 1981, and he owns the trademark to the catchphrase, “To be the man, you gotta beat the man.”

Ric Flair said he thought it was “cool” when Becky Lynch started calling herself “The Man” because he thought he was going to make some money, as WWE has his trademark to use.

Flair noted that he then got in touch with WWE’s lawyer, who he told him “it’s not even close.” Ric’s lawyer then called WWE’s lawyer, and Ric claims his lawyer was blown off.

The Nature Boy added that he brought his concerns to Triple H, and on August 26, he filed an application with the USPTO to own the term “The Man” specifically relating to pro wrestling.

According to Ric Flair, his own daughter Charlotte is upset with him for pushing the situation.

He also noted that he has absolutely no problem with Becky Lynch, and he’s a big supporter of the women’s division.

According to Flair if the USPTO grants him the trademark he will allow Becky Lynch to use it, if WWE pays him.

Flair says he’s willing to pursue legal action if he doesn’t get paid because he wants to make sure his family is financially set.

“When I almost died two years ago, one person stayed by me [Wendy]. The whole time — 31 days in the ICU, 12 days while I was dying on a respirator — and I’m gonna take care of her, and her family, and my family that has taken care of me no matter what.”

“I don’t care what the WWE thinks of me personally, I know they love me, but obviously they’ve lost respect for me.”
