Ric Flair is known to many as a living legend in the professional wrestling business, and it almost goes without saying that he’s earned the respect of his peers.
However, when Becky Lynch started calling herself The Man it seemed that Flair had issues with her using the name, and he filed a trademark for the term. Luckily the issue was resolved, but while speaking with Conrad Thompson on the My World podcast The Nature Boy noted that he had some concerns regarding how he would be received backstage.
Flair noted that he didn’t want to be at odds with the company’s current top star, so he pulled Roman Reigns aside to make sure that there weren’t any issues.
“I was concerned that I had lost the respect of Roman Reigns. Because when that whole ‘Man’ thing went upside down and all that and I had to file the trademark, whatever transpired, it means nothing now. I think people, I heard that he… and I walked right up to him. I said, ‘Can I have a minute of your time?’ and I said, ‘Hey, it means a lot to me.’ I mean, you want the kids [current WWE Superstars] to look forward to you coming, not, ‘Oh man, here he comes again.’ Does that make sense? Especially when you have a daughter who is at the most elite position she could be in.”
