WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event aired live from Salt Lake City, UT on Saturday and the stakes were at an all time high heading into the show. Several titles were on the line and Cody Rhodes defended his Undisputed WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre in the opening match.
It was announced during SmackDown the night before that Cody Rhodes would lose the Undisputed WWE Championship if he were to get disqualified or counted out during the match.
At one point Cody Rhodes was stomping Drew in the corner and the referee pulled Cody off of him. The American Nightmare responded by shoving the referee then Drew took advantage of the distraction as he hit Cody from behind.
Eventually Drew got frustrated, so he grabbed the Undisputed WWE Championship and brought it into the ring. Cody took the belt from McIntyre, then the referee took the belt from Cody, and Drew responded with a Claymore to Cody for a two count.
The Scottish Warrior set Cody up in front of the announce table then tried to Claymore the champion through it, but Cody blocked it. Cody got back up on the apron and Drew knocked him off. Rhodes fell onto the announce table and it collapsed. The referee started to count to ten as Cody returned to the ring at the last second.
Drew McIntyre set Cody up for another Claymore and Cody dodged it. Cody ran to the corner and tried to climb the ropes, but the ref was in his way. Cody’s knee buckled as he fell to the mat. He eventually connected with the Cody Cutter only for McIntyre to get his shoulder up.
Cody went for the Cross Rhodes and Drew kicked him. Drew then pushed Cody into the corner and Cody accidentally knocked down the referee. Rhodes jumped off the ropes right into a Glasgow Kiss.
McIntyre grabbed the belt while the referee was down then swung at Cody, but Cody dodged it. They collided and both fell to the mat. Drew and Cody crawled to the title and Cody hit a DDT on Drew onto the title belt then threw it out of the ring. Cody connected with the Cross Rhodes to win the match.
