Rey Mysterio is a unique force in the ring and his emergence in the WWE Universe was one most will never forget. He ran down to save Edge from the Un-Americans and as soon as Mysterio launched himself off the top of that solid steel cage it was off to the races.
Mysterio broke down so many barriers during his first run in WWE because before him there really might not have been much of a chance for a guy like Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, or even Seth Rollins in WWE. Rey Mysterio was small but impactful and he made his message loud and clear.
One of the unique parts of Mysterio’s persona was his entrance and how he would capture the WWE Universe’s attention from the get-go as a loud pyro display went off and he came up from beneath the ring launching him high into the air as his entrance music asked: “who’s that jumping out the sky?”
“That was awesome, what an entrance man” Mysterio commented to Edge and Christian on their Pod Of Awesomeness. “I wanna say Dean Malenko was the person that either brought that idea to the table or somehow it came about but I know Dean had something to do with it which I loved. I thought that just made the Rey Mysterio character more interesting man it just coming out flying from the bottom… really incredible.”
Mysterio then went on to discuss what it was like debuting in WWE after he was almost certain it was an impossibility for a guy of his stature.
“Overall there was a lot of emotion, a lot of excitement, a lot of fear to make sure my first appearance was one to impact and at the end of the day still to this day every time i do something new I get that butterfly sensation in my stomach where I get the jitters and I’m nervous and I always think that is just a part of me just still feeling the passion to be able to do what I love to do what I’ve done for 28 years… to wrestle.”
Mr. 6-1-9 went on to say that as soon as he doesn’t feel that passion anymore then that means his career is over. But he still certainly has that fire burning for the ring at this point in his career as another run with WWE seems more likely than ever.
