The Working A Resthold podcast announced that planned appearances by a few wrestlers who participated in the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament have been removed from their upcoming podcast on January 28th. They sent out the following message concerning the matter:
“Unfortunately, yesterday afternoon, Scott Andrews was informed that due to their new WWE contractual obligations, Trent Seven, Pete Dunne and Mark Andrews are now unable to participate in the show. On behalf of myself, Dannii and Marianne, we’d like to wish all three the very best for the future and would like to thank them for their professionalism.”
Even though William Regal said that United Kingdom Championship Tournament participants would experience no restrictions in regards to where they were allowed to work, this is apparently not the case across the board.
Dave Meltzer also notes that these United Kingdom superstars were told of the restrictions in their contracts before signing them which permits them to perform for certain promotions although the events cannot be distributed by being televised, streamed, transmitted or taped unless they are given permission beforehand.
It’s also being reported that WWE plans on bringing in certain WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament participants into San Antonio for Royal Rumble weekend, although it is unknown how they will be used.
WWE has also apparently struck a deal with ICW, Progress, and OTT of some kind. It was noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that ICW has signed a deal which will see their events on the WWE Network and there is a possibility of more to come. An official announcement is expected to be made soon.
