The Road To WrestleMania 34 might have started at the Royal Rumble but in a lot of ways, it began much earlier than that. After all, events from WrestleMania 31 between Ronda Rousey, Stephanie McMahon, and Triple H are finally playing out in New Orleans this year. But the story for the Cruiserweight Division started with Enzo Amore’s WWE release.
It was quite a foolish and interesting way to be let go, to say the least, but Enzo Amore doesn’t do anything in a conventional way. This unpleasant and awful circumstance resulted in vacating Amore’s WWE Cruiserweight Championship before the Royal Rumble. Instead of defending the championship, 205 Live needed a new face of the brand so a new General Manager was introduced and a tournament was announced.
The Cruiserweight Championship Tournament kicked off when Drake Maverick said “go” and was full of great matches with hungry Superstars all trying to not only prove they are worthy of the title but also bring eyeballs to the show itself.
As the Road To WrestleMania continues it looks like we have one competitor already locked for the conclusion of the Cruiserweight Championship Tournament in Cedric Alexander. It was a great moment and extremely well-deserved when Alexander cemented his place at the Show Of Shows.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports the Cruiserweight Title match listed for WrestleMania is Cedric Alexander vs Mustafa Ali. Therefore, as excellent as Drew Gulak has been in the last few weeks it looks like Ali will most likely defeat him and go on to secure a WrestleMania moment.
Of course, things can always change but Meltzer noted Alexander vs Ali was the idea of the tournament’s conclusion when it was decided that the winner would be crowned at WrestleMania.
The only question is how long either man would be able to hold the title, especially since there is a ton of competition already with more rumored Superstars such as Lio Rush and Ricochet on the way.
