Survivor Series 2011 was an event where wrestling fans saw several things we’ll never see again. Santino Marella battled Jinder Mahal, CM Punk began his 434 day WWE Championship reign and The Rock teamed with John Cena for one night only. WWE dubbed the match as a “never before, never again” team up and unlike the time they told us that The Rock vs John Cena at WrestleMania was “once in a lifetime”, they actually kept their promise on this one.
Back in 2011 the team of The Miz and R-Truth, known as the Awesome Truth were running roughshod all over WWE. Their name was actually quite appropriate as the team was pretty awesome. They were breaking all the rules and yelling something about a conspiracy, which never amounted to anything, and they needed to be stopped.
John Cena and The Rock came together for one night only and teamed up to take out the Awesome Truth once and for all. This is a pairing that many fans thought they could only see via a WWE video game so it was a little shocking to see it come together.
The Rock and Cena have chemistry as opponents and they also had chemistry as a team. It was fun to watch them work together and against each at the same time and it was fun to see The Rock wrestle a match for the first time since WrestleMania 20. The match took place 4 years ago today and although it might not be a “classic” per se, it’s still an interesting and memorable moment in time.
Let’s relive all of the chaos and glory of this “never before, never again” matchup via the video below.
