Back in April WWE announced coronavirus related budget cuts, and then the company proceeded to announce that a number of talents had been released from NXT and WWE.
Drake Maverick was among the names released, but Maverick’s WWE status has been a hot topic for weeks now as the company allowed him to compete in the Cruiserweight Championship tournament.
Maverick made it all the way to the finals, and even though he didn’t win the title, he did earn a contract with NXT.
The storyline has obviously caused a lot of people to question whether or not Drake Maverick was released in the first place, and the timing of the angle has also been a talking point.
Recently it was reported that WWE officials are interested in re-signing some of the stars who were released for less money than they were making before.
Lio Rush was also released back in April, and he reacted to the storyline when he posted the following:
“Man….Are they going to hire everyone back then? Kind of a slap in the face to use this as a shoot work. But i guess I’m not surprised. Super happy for anyone getting there job back. But damn, real trauma and a lot of others were apart of this.”
