Released WWE Star Reveals Scrapped Plans For Match With Brock Lesnar

Weeks ago WWE released a number of stars including Mace. Prior to his run as Mace the former RETRIBUTION member worked on the Raw commentary team as Dio Maddin, and in November of 2019 he was destroyed by Brock Lesnar when The Beast put him through the announce table. Dio Maddin later followed up with a tweet hinting at a possible match, but nothing ever came of it.

During a recent Reddit AMA, Mace was asked if there were plans for a match with Brock Lesnar. According to Mace the match was discussed, but Vince McMahon decided it against it because Mace was working as a commentator at the time.

“Ha. So when it happened they told me I’d just be back on commentary next week. Then they told me (as I was boarding a plane to the UK) that I would be selling it for a week. Then another. Then another. Then they said they were going in a new direction with the commentary team.

The tweet was me desperately trying to not get sent back to the PC like Mufasa falling to his death. Although as I understand it, a match was discussed, but Vince said it would be confusing to the audience because they didn’t know I wrestled. I was later told they changed directions because I was too big for commentary so I eagerly awaited my big push”
