Following the TKO merger in September of 2023 a number of surprising names were released from WWE including former WWE Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin. Now it seems that Shelton could be on the path to finding a new home in the wrestling world.
Fightful Select reports that Shelton Benjamin and AEW didn’t initially engage in talks after he was released from WWE, but the two sides have recently had talks about Benjamin possibly making appearances for the company.
There’s currently no word on if he would be signing a contract or full-time deal with the company. The two sides have been in talks as far back as a month ago, but it’s unknown if a deal has been finalized.
Last year there were said to be people in AEW who were pushing for Shelton Benjamin when it was rumored that his WWE deal was coming up. That turned out to not be the case, but in the end Benjamin parted ways with WWE when the company released him.
Shelton Benjamin had been with WWE ever since AEW, so he’s never wrestled for the company, but he has previously competed in Ring of Honor. Stay tuned for more updates on Shelton’s status as they become available.
